Finding housing
Here is the whole journey, step by step, and what you can do at each one.
Get set up
Your navigator helps you get ready to match: confirming what you are looking for, your budget, any accessibility needs, and your move-in window. Your dashboard always shows where you are in the journey.
What you can do here
- Work with your navigator to complete your profile
- Share your must-haves, budget, and move-in window
- Watch your status move from Getting ready to Reviewing homes
How we match you, safely
You do not search listings. Your navigator reviews homes and only shows you the ones we match you with. Homeowners only ever see your first name and the details you choose to share, never your full identity, and you only see a home's neighborhood until a match is confirmed.
What you can do here
- Trust that every home you see was matched to you on purpose
- Know your identity stays protected (homeowners see your first name only)
Review the homes we match you with
Matched homes appear under "Homes to review," with photos, the details that matter, and a map of the approximate neighborhood. Exact addresses come only after a match is confirmed. Tap a pin to jump to a home, then let us know if you are interested or it is not a fit.
What you can do here
- Browse your matched homes and their photos
- Use the map to see approximate neighborhoods
- Mark each home I'm interested or Not a fit
Background check (if a matched home requires one)
Some homeowners ask for a standard background check as part of the home-sharing process. If any of your matched homes have this requirement, a background check card appears at the top of your dashboard. The check is handled by Checkr, a trusted provider, and typically completes in about 24 hours.
What you can do here
- If any matched home requires a background check, a card appears at the top of your dashboard
- Click the card and confirm your email and state to start
- Checkr sends you a secure link to complete it on any device
- Once cleared, the card shows a confirmation, and your navigator sees the result automatically
Introductions and getting placed
When you and a homeowner both want to move forward, your navigator arranges an introduction and a pre-mediation meeting, helps with the agreement, and supports your move-in. After you are placed, we stay in touch with regular check-ins.
What you can do here
- Meet your potential homeowner with your navigator's support
- Your pre-mediation session is where you and your homeowner write the Mutual Living Agreement together
- We send the documents for electronic signature, and the signed agreement is attached to your Agreements page
- Your navigator handles the agreement and move-in details
- Reach out any time with the Need a hand? form
